In the spring I designed my first book (and eBook).
Amazon allows writers to self-publish their work, as Kindle eBooks, or in paperback copies, which are printed on demand.
The story was a personal one that the Author had worked on for years. Completing and sharing the story was a bucket-list item, so it was more important that it be shared with friends and family who were interested, over focusing on sales. It was decided that it would be best to do it independently, instead of chasing agents and publishers, in hopes of selling it.
The cover was designed after several concepts, before the final photograph was discovered, then it was obviously the right choice (and used on the website as well). The manuscript was edited, proof-read and shared in Microsoft Word.

The layout was set up (for eBook and paperback) using Amazon’s Kindle Create software. It’s interface takes a little getting used to, behaving and looking like a PC application from the 1990’s. Luckily it generates previews easily and quickly that can be previewed.
When completed, a ‘proof’ copy of the physical paperback can be ordered for review and delivered within 10 days.

Upon completion of the book design, a website was created to promote the book, at dawnbeecroftteetzel.ca
The site was built using WordPress and includes an embedded preview and links to Amazon to make a purchase. It has since been redesigned and simplified by the Author, removing the focus on Paradise Acres alone and more writing has been added, in a traditional blog post format.
